Thessaloniki Beaches by Bus: Lines, Changes and Tips

No car? No problem. Half of Thessaloniki's best beaches sit along a single bus line, and that line ends in our village.
Line 72: the “sea line”
For Thessaloniki locals, the 72 means summer. It starts at the IKEA transfer station, on the eastern edge of the city, and runs down the whole coast:
- Perea
- Neoi Epivates
- Agia Triada
- Nea Michaniona, the last stop
There are variants (72A, 72B, 72E) with slightly different routes. Services usually get more frequent in summer. Sources from previous years mention a bus roughly every half hour, but timetables change, so always check oasth.gr or the OASTH app.
From the city centre: Take any bus that goes to IKEA and change there to the 72. Allow about an hour in total to Michaniona, depending on traffic.
Line 69: to Epanomi
Line 69 also connects IKEA with Epanomi. But note: it goes to the village, not to Potamos beach or the shipwreck, which are several kilometres further. For those you'll need a taxi or a car. See our Potamos guide.
Stay at Theodoras House
A 91 m² home with a garden and barbecue in Nea Michaniona, for up to 7 guests, with free parking. Everything in this guide is a short drive away.
By boat
In summer, a waterbus runs from Thessaloniki port to Perea and Neoi Epivates, and in some years to Agia Triada too. It's slower than the bus, but the view of the city from the sea is worth the ticket on its own. Schedules are announced each year, so check before you go.
Bus tips
- Tickets: Buy before boarding or at the machines on the bus, and keep your ticket until the end. Inspectors do check.
- Rush hour: On summer weekends the 72 fills up from the morning. If you can, leave before 9:30.
- Getting back: Don't leave the last bus to chance. Check its time in advance.
- If you're staying with us: Tourbali is a 1.2 km walk, and the 72 runs through the village. Without a car you still have four beaches and Thessaloniki.
